Hey Colin, I understand the desire to escape social media. I hope the writing is going well and I look forward to reading your stuff (if you decide to publish). Best wishes, A

That is an incredibly kind thing to say Andromeda. Thank you so much. I don't feel so much like escaping completely than setting some boundaries of my own so that I can continue to take value from it, as opposed to feeling like I am at the behest of it (if that makes sense). I do thoroughly enjoy some elements, but I feel very drawn into my writing work once again and so I must give it priority as a gift to myself.

I can relate to a lot of what you are saying, Colin. I had a cathartic writing event, blasting away twenty years of online writing, because I realised that every time I was engaging in writing, it was deliberately away from the writing I wanted to be doing. It's easy because the "normal service" is what is visible and rewarded. Being able to gauge when it's time to stop something and move on from that is a slow and quiet thing, forced into the visible online. For now, I am still scattered, uncertain if even the more writerly spaces of Substack are the place for me. I am still writing for all the wrong reasons (likely for some years!). However, the great cosmic reward of listening to that quiet inner feedback over the noise from the louder external cacophony is, I think, when you know that you are getting deeper into 'why' you are this person who can never seem to stop the call to read and write words. I look forward, to reading your words!

Hi Colin, I don’t know anything about Booktok or bookstagram or influencer kinds of things although reading is a big part of my life. You have had an influence on me by turning me on to some wonderful reads. Your friendliness, inclusiveness and overall enthusiasm really came off as a friend with a good recommendation. Congratulations on the writing. I’ll be sticking around this stack to hear more of your adventures.

Peace

John

Hello John. I cannot thank you enough for your incredibly kind message. It's genuinely flattering to know I may have had an influence on your reading and literary habits. I can assure you I shall be continuing to make recommendations and share the things I love. This was more to sign off on the book club for now, and to reiterate my intentions for making content in the first place. I shall never be far away. Stay in touch. Colin

So pleased to hear you have resumed writing Colin. I agree that writing process and being a content creation can be antithetical. I wish you the best and I look forward to whatever form the newsletter takes. While I did not actively take part in your book club because of time constraints, I always loved your posts and recommendations.
